Rushanara Ali is facing calls to resign following accusations of hypocrisy after evicting tenants to increase rent.
Ali was renting her property in east London to four tenants, who were given four months notice as the property was being sold.
The tenants then saw the house for rent, only for £700 more expensive per month, after supposedly finding no buyers.
The Renter’s Rights Bill, which will be implemented in a year, will ban exactly this, showing her own hypocrisy in doing it herself.
This is the same MP who has claimed that the Labour government would “empower people to challenge unreasonable rent increases”.
This seemingly reminds some voters of past Tory sleaze which they tried to vote away, but have been left with more of the same.
Why a politician – let alone a Labour one – is a landlord renting out £900k houses in the first place, I don’t know…
