The group named ‘Mia Moglie’ was shut down recently by Italian police – even though it began in 2019.

The facebook page was filled with everything from private photos, to secretly taken images for other men to comment on, Although the name suggests the group just submitted images of their own wives – pictures were of strangers and girlfriends too.

It took over 2,000 complaints to META and Italian authorities before the facebook group with 32,00 members was finally removed. Italy’s Postal Police, who are responsible for digital law enforcement, have so far made no arrests.

What is even worse – the group’s admins – who are still unidentified left a message stating ‘We have just made a more private and secure group. F*ck you moralists’.

This was all too little too late, as hundreds of thousands of images had already been circulated, including photos taken during sexual activities and shared by partners without consent.

Since 2019, women have been complaining, and now even though Facebook has pulled the plug, these thousands of screenshots are likely still circulating elsewhere – only harder to find.

Italy does have a revenge porn law – which could put perpetrators in prison for up to six years – but these men had no shame.

One user was a mayoral candidate, another, a journalist. These were men using their full legal names and profiles to share intimate images of their wives. The group was easy for anyone to view and women were not protected.

Online voyeurism, revenge porn and the dehumanization of women must end now.
