Mayor Daniel Lurie, has stated that RV’s are not safe or suitable housing – but these people have nowhere else to go but the streets.
In San Francisco, sky-high rents have left many citizens priced out of housing – leaving them homeless with nowhere else to go but their RV.
Mayor Daniel Lurie has stated the importance of clearing sidewalks and maintaining a clean city, despite the fact the local community is clearly struggling to stay afloat financially.
This cruel move to banning RV’s will worsen the crisis, as without alternatives these people have no shelter. San Francisco city is only offering aid to 65 households.
Pushing for clean streets, by banning large vehicles and disregarding the people who live there is dystopian. The RVs serve as shelter for people who can’t afford housing,
The proposal sets a two-hour parking limit citywide for all RVs and oversized vehicles longer than 22 feet (7 meters) or taller than 7 feet (2 meters), regardless of whether they are used as housing.
San Francisco city has acknowledged that not enough is being done to house those who have to live in their RV, however rather than tackling inequality or rent prices, offers short term solutions such as hotel vouchers.
